A police car was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Newcastle city centre.

Officers were called to a collision on the A186 City Road, near to the junction with Gibson Street, at around 1.40pm on Friday. Two cars were involved in the crash, including a Northumbria Police vehicle.

No-one suffered serious injuries in the collision. Part of the road was blocked but has now been cleared.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 1.40pm today (Friday) we were alerted to a two-vehicle collision on the A186 City Road in Newcastle, near to the junction with Gibson Street.

“Officers attended the scene where it was reported that two cars had been involved, including a Northumbria Police vehicle. Thankfully nobody was believed to have suffered serious injuries.

“Part of the road was temporarily blocked but has since been cleared. Enquiries are ongoing.”
