Police close main road after boy hit by car during rush hour

A main road was closed after a boy was struck by a car during this morning's rush hour. Police and paramedics were called to Illeybrook Square, near the Hobson's Choice pub, just after 8.25am on Monday, May 13, where they found a child with potentially serious injuries.

He was treated at the scene before he was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital. Clapgate Lane was closed by police at the junctions of Parkside and Clover Drive.

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a car and pedestrian on Illeybrook Square at 8.26am, one ambulance and a trauma doctor attended the scene.

"On arrival we discovered one patient, the pedestrian, who was a boy. He was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital."

The cordons were taken down just before noon.
