Police Close Roads In London While They Blow Up Pesto Sandwich

A suspect package that forced road closures in London over the weekend turned out to be… a pesto sandwich.

Police closed Borough High Street, forcing people to stay inside a nearby Sainsbury’s and pub, when a small brown bag was spotted at a bus stop.

Experts were brought in to carry out a controlled explosion of the bag, which was later discovered to someone’s forgotten lunch.

Bystander Adam Smith live-tweeted the day’s disruption as it happened, right from the street closure.

This was the scene before the sandwich in question was spotted…

And this is the carnage after the explosion took place.

Adam wrote: “Standing at the bus stop chuckling to myself as I keep seeing more evidence of the sandwich explosion.

“There is pesto on the first floor windows.”

He wasn’t wrong, the sauce was splattered up the next-door wall:

Whoever left that sandwich there has a lot of explaining to do.
