Police Confirm That Chris Evans Is Being Investigated Over A Historical Sexual Assault

Police have confirmed that they are investigating Top Gear host Chris Evans over a historical sexual assault.

The Met police confirmed in a statement earlier today that a woman made an allegation of a “non-recent sexual assault” on the 23rd of May.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “An allegation of non-recent sexual assault was made to police on May 23.

"The allegation was made by a woman against a man, and relates to incidents in Tower Hamlets in the 1990s.

"There have been no arrests and no person has been interviewed under caution.”

No further information was given and it is unclear whether Chris will face any further questioning or the time scale of the entire investigation.

The Radio 2 DJ had previously slammed the claims as well as further allegations that he bullied staff and exposed himself to a former colleague and grabbed her breasts.

He said at the time: “Ask anyone I’ve ever worked with at Radio 2 if I’ve ever been bullying. Go on. Ask them. Yes, I lose my rag.

"But not like I used to. I used to be a big shouter and screamer. But I don’t bully people. And I didn’t get my willy out.

"I wouldn’t be showing it off like a megalomaniac - I wish I had reason to.”

The police confirmation comes as Chris announced that he had quit Top Gear, taking to his Twitter account earlier today to say: “Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best.

“Full steam ahead then with Radio 2, CarFest, Children In Need, 500 Words and whatever else we can dream up in the future.”

Reps for both the BBC and Chris refused to comment on the assault allegations.
