Police drop arson probe after fire rips through £495k Hanley building

Police are no longer taking any action against a man arrested following a huge fire at a city centre building. Officers launched an arson probe after the former Ringway House offices, on Bryan Street, Hanley, went up in flames.

It led to Bryan Street and Brewery Street being taped off as firefighters tackled the blaze on April 2. During the height of the incident three fire engines and three police cars were at the scene.

The alarm had been raised around 5am with an investigation deeming the fire to be deliberate. A 32-year-old man, of no fixed address, was detained on suspicion of arson.

However, in an update issued today (May 21) a Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "No further action is being taken against the man we arrested and the incident is no longer being treated as arson."

Ringway House is listed by Louis Taylor with a price tag of £495,000 with a description stating it had played host to offices and represented a 'substantial landmark city centre headquarter office premises'. According to the website it is currently 'under offer'.
