Police in Fenton rooftop stand-off with man throwing 'missiles'

Police are in stand-off with a man on the roof of a terrace home in Stoke-on-Trent. Eye-witnesses say the man climbed on top of a row of houses in King Street, Fenton, at around 5pm today (June 28).

Part of King Street has been cordoned off as officers and firefighters deal with the incident. Paramedics are also on standby. It is understood that some residents are not allowed to return to their homes while the stand-off is ongoing as 'missiles' are being hurled to the ground.

One eye-witness said: "He is throwing items off the roof. The road is shut and some people aren't allowed in their houses."

Another StokeonTrentLive reader said: "There's a man on the roof. He is causing a lot of damage to the property. It's a waste of time for the fire service, police service and ambulance service."

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they have two engines in attendance but declined to comment further on the incident which is being led by Staffordshire Police.

A fire service spokesman said: "We were called to King Street in Fenton at 5.18pm. We have two crews in attendance. We're unable to comment on the nature of the incident as it is being led by police."

StokeonTrentLive is attempting to contact Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service for statements.
