Police are hunting a thug after a man was punched in the face in an “unprovoked and violent” attack at a busy north London station.

A 28-year-old man was walking down the spiral staircase at Finsbury Park when he was suddenly attacked.

He moved out of the way of a man walking in the opposite direction but as they passed, the man walking towards him punched him in the face.

This made the victim fall down the stairs and he landed hard, causing bruising and swelling to his neck and jaw, police said.

His phone was also broken as a result of the fall.

PC Michael Hoare, from British Transport Police, said: “This was a completely unprovoked and violent attack. The victim fell down several steps following the offender’s bewildering actions – it is important he is identified.
