Police incident sees road cordoned off and several vehicles 'badly damaged' in Cardiff

Four people were take to hospital after a three-vehicle crash that left a busy road partially closed for hours. It is reported that several vehicles were "badly damaged" in Cardiff.

The incident happened on Monday evening at The Philog in Whitchurch and a police investigation is underway. Officers have said that a three-vehicle road traffic collision which was reported at 5.50pm on Monday (April 30).

A statement from South Wales Police said that no serious injuries were reported. A spokesperson added: "As a precaution the four people involved went to University Hospital of Wales to be checked."

Photos from the scene show crews from South Wales Police, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service at the scene. A cordon was in place for several hours from Cradoc Road to Wauntreoda Road and multiple emergency service vehicles were at the scene.

The spokesperson said that The Philog in Whitchurch was closed to allow for vehicle recovery. The road re-opened shortly after 8.30pm.

One person who witnessed the aftermath of the incident said they saw the roof being removed from one of the vehicles involved, while pictures show a number of vehicles in a damaged state.

“I came across the scene on the way to the shop," they said. "The Philog was already cordoned off and people weren’t allowed past. I could see several badly damaged vehicles and the firefighters taking the roof off one vehicle.”

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said police were investigating the incident.
