Police investigate discovery of man's body in south Manchester

Police are investigating after a man's body was found in south Manchester. A cordon is currently in place on Platt Lane in Fallowfield following the discovery at about 8.50am today (Monday).

Pictures from the scene show a stretch of the road taped off by officers as an investigation continues. A large number of police officers and forensics specialists were on the scene.

A section of the road was closed off between Lloyd Street South and Princess Road. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the body of a man in his 60s was found at a property.

Detectives from the Major Incident Team of Greater Manchester Police were this afternoon examining whether or not there are suspicious circumstances. The scene remained cordoned off this afternoon while police were focusing on one property on Platt Lane.

Neighbours reported big emergency services presence on Platt Lane from early on Monday morning. One man said: "I just saw loads of ambulances and cop cars parked up when I was walking to work this morning."

A spokesperson for GMP said: "At around 8.50am this morning (Monday 1 July 2024), we were called to reports of a deceased male at an address on Platt Lane, Manchester.

"Sadly, a man in his 60s was confirmed deceased at the scene. Our officers remain at the address and a scene is place while we carry out our investigations."
