Police have issued a warning over "localised flooding" after thunder and heavy rain hit Merseyside tonight.

From Friday until earlier today, sunny conditions saw thousands of people leave their homes to enjoy some of the much-needed warmth.

However, the weather has taken a turn for the worst - or better, depending on your preference - as storms barrage the area.

This has prompted Merseyside Police to release a weather warning. On Sefton Police's Facebook page, a post reads: "The high volume of rain that came down in the storm at 6:00PM in Southport has led to localised flooding on some roads, especially in Churchtown.

"Forecasts are for the rain to continue until 10:00/11:00PM with more storms until then.

"Please drive in accordance with the road conditions. If you can't see due to heavy rain, pull over and stop in a safe location. Give more stopping space between the vehicle in front and consider the impact of the rainwater on your brakes.

"Please drive safely.

"At this time the forecast for this week is more rain each day until the weekend."

Weather in Liverpool is expected to reach highs of 19C tomorrow, while Southport will reach 20C. Cloudy conditions are predicted.
