Police issue statement on why A55 was closed this morning

Police have revealed the reason why a busy dual carriageway was closed for two hours to morning rush hour drivers. The incident involved a pedestrian on a westbound section between Dwygyfylchi and Penmaenmawr.

The road was shut from about 6am before being re-opened with traffic jams easing by about 8am. In a statement North Wales Police said: "At 5.44am this morning, officers attended an incident involving a pedestrian on the Westbound carriageway of the A55 between J16 Dwygyfylchi and J15a Penmaenmawr.

"Colleagues from WAST (Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust) also attended and the road was closed. One person was taken to hospital in Stoke. The road was reopened shortly before 8am."

The force have asked for information about the incident. They said: "Anyone who was in the area around the time, and any motorists with dashcam are asked to contact us via our live webchat or on 101 quoting ref Q061251."
