Police are stepping up patrols after troublemakers targeted a popular park - just weeks after a ceremony to mark its £1.5 million makeover. A significant overhaul had been carried out at Stone's Westbridge Park which saw a raft of new play equipment installed.

The scheme, which also included a zip wire, a wheeled sports facility, multi-use games (MUGA) area, woodland play area, sunken garden, toilets and 'enhanced' footpaths and landscaping, was wrapped up at the end of last year. At the end of April dignitaries, including gold medal-winning Olympic canoeist Joe Clarke, gathered to officially open the park.

Now Staffordshire Police have confirmed there have been reports of anti-social behaviour at the attraction - with cops set to step up patrols. Neighbourhood officers are also planning to stage a meet-and-greet at the park so residents can raise any concerns.

Local PCSO Megan Rogers said: "Local officers will be increasing foot patrols around the area of Westbridge Park due to reports of anti-social behaviour taking place at the location. We are currently carrying out enquiries to identify those involved and we will be engaging with the children on a frequent basis. The deputy commander and local officers will be announcing a date and time in the upcoming weeks to provide the public with the opportunity to meet us in person at the park."

PCSO Rogers, who covers Stone, Barlaston, Meir Heath, Fulford and Blythe Bridge, says the force wants to ensure the park is a safe place.

She added: "Please report any incidents of concern to the police so that we are able to take positive action. The park is a lovely addition to the town and we will do what we can to ensure that it is a safe and enjoyable space for those who use it."

Anyone with concerns should call the force on 101.
