Police probe launched after 'unexplained' death of woman at property

POLICE are investigating the "unexplained" death of a woman at a property in Lanark. 

Officers were called to the Aitken Place area of the town at around 7.30pm on Wednesday following reports of a woman taking unwell.

Emergency services attended and the 43-year-old was taken to Wishaw General Hospital by ambulance.

She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say the woman's death is being treated as "unexplained" but they do not believe it to be suspicious.

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged drug offence.

Enquiries remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.30pm on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 officers were called to a report of a 43-year-old woman taking unwell within a property in the Aitken Place area of Lanark.

"Emergency services attended, and she was taken by ambulance to Wishaw General Hospital. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.

"Her death is being treated as unexplained however it is not thought to be suspicious. A 27-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a drugs offence.

“Enquiries are ongoing."
