A police search has been launched after a man was slashed in the face during a fight in a shopping centre in Perth.

Western Australia Police Force said up to three men were involved in a fight at Westfield Carousel Shopping Centre in Cannington on Friday afternoon, two of whom were armed with knives.

A man in his 20s ended up suffering a slash wound to his face, although police said the cause of this injury is still being investigated.

Officers were called to the scene at around 3.30pm after receiving a number of reports about the incident. They found both weapons at the scene but are still searching for the two knifemen.

However, the force said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Police remain at the scene.

Speaking at a press conference, inspector Geoff DeSanges said it is not known whether the trio knew each other.

Urging witnesses to come forward, he said: “There is no place for knives in our society when they are used in violent circumstances such as this. It will not be tolerated. Police will act swiftly and will apply the full weight of the law to those who are seeking to bring weapons into our communities in this way.”

It has been reported some stores closed amid the incident.

A retail worker told ABC she rushed out of her shop after hearing screams.

Jade Watson said: “I sort of heard a little clank, like something dropping to the floor and everyone started running.”
