Police: Sunbury man had explicit conversations with Mifflinburg teen

May 2—MIFFLINBURG — A Sunbury man allegedly thought he was talking to a 14-year-old girl from Mifflinburg when he asked to meet up for sex on April 26, according to Mifflinburg Borough Police.

David C. Brittingham, 26, of Airport Road, Sunbury, had been having sexually explicit conversations with the girl for an undisclosed period of time, according to police documents. Mifflinburg Borough Police report that Patrolman David Shaffer, who had already seized the girl's phone and found alleged explicit content on social media between Brittingham and the teen, posed as the girl and convinced Brittingham to meet at Harry Haney Memorial Park along North Eighth Street in Mifflinburg where he was taken into custody.

Brittingham was charged with six felonies: one count each of of dissemination of child sex act material, possession of child pornography and corruption of minors; and three counts of unlawful contact with a minor; and one misdemeanor count of corruption of minors. The charges were filed by Shaffer in the Mifflinburg office of District Judge Jeffrey Mensch.

Police said the victim's father came to the borough police department on April 26 to report that an adult man named David was allegedly having sexually explicit conversations with his 14-year-old daughter through SnapChat. The alleged conversation had images that were sexual in nature, including nude photographs of the girl, pictures of the man's genitals and several videos of him receiving sexual acts from a woman, police said.

The man was identified as Brittingham. The 18-year-old woman in the video was not aware the videos were shared with a juvenile, police said.

After seizing the girl's phone, police said Brittingham sent a message asking the girl if she wanted to have sex. According to court documents, Shaffer continued the conversation and Brittingham sent more sexually explicit messages. The officer posing as the girl set up a meeting with Brittingham at the Haney Park in Mifflinburg, police said.

Police took Brittingham into custody when he arrived at the park. During the interview, Brittingham admitted to knowing the victim's age and intending to have sexual relations with her, police said.

Brittingham admitted to sending the sexually explicit photographs and videos of himself as well as requesting the girl send him nude photographs of herself, police said.

Brittingham was arraigned in front of Mensch and committed to Union County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
