Police swarm quiet hotel in North Weald as person hospitalised after 'fight'

A huge emergency service response was spotted at an Essex hotel following a "disturbance". Emergency services were called to a fight at the Phoenix Hotel in North Weald on Saturday evening (May 18).

Essex Police said they were called to the address just after 6.15pm and two people were arrested within 90 minutes. One person was taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A man, 32, has been arrested on suspicion of assault and affray and a boy, 17, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and affray. They remain in custody.

Images shared with EssexLive showed a huge response from emergency services. In one photo at least five police vehicles could be seen and one ambulance. The East of England Ambulance Service Trust (EEAST) has not replied to a request for further information.

Enquiries are ongoing. Epping Forest District Commander Chief Inspector Tina Cooper said: "We understand people will be concerned to hear about this incident. But I want to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident between people known to each other at the premises.

"We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. We are working closely with our partners across Epping Forest and officers will be out and about patrolling in the area today. If you have any questions or concerns please do come and talk to us."
