Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in a house. They are currently treating the death as 'unexplained' after officers had taped off a Stafford street.

Police and paramedics had been called to Albert Terrace at around 1.40pm yesterday (May 7). Witnesses say the stretch was shut off on Tuesday with 'police and forensics at the scene' - and an officer 'standing guard' at the doorway into the evening.

Now Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward while paramedics have revealed nothing could be done to save the woman. West Midlands Ambulance Service had sent an ambulance to the scene after being called to a 'medical incident' at around 1.40pm.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "An ambulance was sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a woman. Sadly, it quickly became clear she could not be saved and she was confirmed dead at the scene."

The force is treating the woman's death as unexplained.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 1.50pm by West Midlands Ambulance Service to reports of a woman in cardiac arrest at a house on Albert Terrace, Stafford. Sadly, the woman died a short time later. Her next of kin have been informed and enquiries are ongoing."

Witnesses are asked to call the force on 101 and quote incident 338 of May 7. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
