Police in Texas search for woman who rang doorbells and vanished

Police are searching for a mystery woman who rang the doorbell of a Texas home in the dead of night before vanishing.

She was wearing what appears to be broken restraints on both wrists.

Footage of the woman, dressed in just a white T-shirt, was captured on the home's surveillance camera in the Sunrise Ranch area of Montgomery.

It shows the woman emerging from behind a bush next to the house before walking to the front door and ringing the doorbell at 3.20am on 24 August.

The video ends there and the woman has not been seen since.

An anonymous resident told ABC News that she had rang the doorbell of several different neighbours but disappeared by the time they answered their doors.

"I've got a nine-year-old daughter at home. It worries me what's going on in the neighbourhood," another local, Branson Golson, told KTRK.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as the clip continues to circulate online.

They describe the incident as "suspicious", with several Texans sending out flyers that suggest the woman is a missing person.

However, officials say there are no missing person reports from the area that match her description.

Deputies have conducted door-to-door checks in the area and interviewed homeowners as well as businesses to no avail.

They are also reviewing video surveillance from surrounding buildings.

After police shared the incident online, some feared the woman was a victim of abduction.

One person asked: "Why didn't anyone help her?? She could be escaping from someone."

Another said: "It sure looks like Brittany Burfield who's been missing in Texas."

Ms Burfield was last seen on 25 June, and police have since a charged a 37-year-old man with her death despite her body not being found.
