A hunt for a gang of sheep rustlers has been sparked after 20 lambs were stolen from a field in Staffordshire on an unknown date. Police believe that the criminals used a 4X4 vehicle to reach the land where the lambs were being kept.

Once there, Staffordshire Police believe that they loaded the lambs onto the back of a trailer. They made off with the livestock from the land, which was just off Langot Lane, Fair Oak, near to Eccleshall in Staffordshire.

Police have warned farmers to remain vigilant in the wake of the incident. They added that farmers should ensure that all livestock is secure and to report any suspicious activity, StokeonTrentLive reports.

The precise date that the lambs were stolen is not known. However, police believe the rustling was carried out between January 13 and January 20.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "We are appealing for information after the disappearance of some 12-month-old Texel x breed lambs from a field off Langot Lane.

"The field would have required a 4x4 type vehicle to access due to the terrain, and it is believed some sort of trailer may of been used to transport the 20 lambs away from the location.

"Please remain vigilant in the local area, ensure any access gates to land are secure/locked and all perimeter fencing is in good condition - if you witness any suspicious activity that causes concern then please contact us."
