Just ONE per cent of Britons think Brexit negotiations are going 'very well'

Only one% of Britons believe the Brexit negotiations are going “very well”, a poll has revealed.

The survey by YouGov and The Times found that the nation’s confidence in the government’s strategy for leaving the European Union is low.

In a poll of 2,000 people carried out earlier this month, only 1% said they were totally convinced by Theresa May’s Brexit team.

But a slightly more optimistic 21% thought Brexit was being handled “fairly well” by the government.

That gave a total of 22% who had positive thoughts about the Conservative government’s approach to Brexit, down from 25% when the same question was asked at the end of January.

31% of those polled thought that the talks were being handled ‘fairly badly’, and 28% thought the government was doing ‘very badly’.

19% responded that they didn’t know.

However, when asked if Britain was right or wrong to vote to leave the EU, the country is evenly split, with 43% saying it was the correct outcome against 44% who say the UK should stay.

Meanwhile, Liberal Democrat MP Layla Moran has claimed most people secretly wish Brexit could be halted – and that her party could reverse the decision.

She said: “I think there is a real chance we can do this, and the main thing we need to get across is that it’s doable: if enough of all the people who secretly in bed just wish this would stop, ‘just make it stop’, and I think that’s most of the population now – ‘just make it stop’.

“We can do this but we need to give people belief, and we’ll have a referendum on that deal, one of the options will be to stay in, but we can’t do it without public opinion swinging behind us.

“The people, the population have far more power than maybe they even realise.”
