Polling stations, photo ID and dog rules: Where to vote in Stoke-on-Trent today
Voters are heading to polling stations for the 2024 General Election. Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday, July 4 with most of the results expected overnight.
It comes as one pollster is forecasting the Tories’ worst-ever loss in Thursday’s vote, with Labour set to outperform its 1997 landslide victory in this year’s General Election. More In Common’s MRP poll of 13,556 adults across Great Britain is predicting Labour will finish with 430 seats, the Conservatives on 126, and Reform UK with two seats.
A second poll is predicting a Labour win with more than 418 seats.
Voters are reminded to take photo ID to the polling station to be able to vote.

Five key polling station rules
Taking selfies:
You are not allowed to take photos inside a polling station as the Electoral Commission - which oversees UK elections - says it risks the secrecy of the ballot. The punishment for revealing how someone else voted - even accidentally - is a fine of up to £5,000 or six months in prison. However, people are welcome to take photos outside the polling station.
Are dogs allowed inside polling stations?
Assistance dogs are allowed inside polling stations with their owners but other dogs are not. There is no restriction around leaving pet dogs outside while votes are cast. As many polling stations are situated inside primary schools, the Electoral Office has said they too would prefer dog walkers to leave their pets at home before visiting the polling stations.
Can I post on social media about who I voted for?
Yes, but voters are advised not to update their social media accounts inside the polling station. The rules for postal ballot papers are different, so voters can share photos of their own postal ballot paper on social media if they wish.
Can I vote if I've been drinking alcohol?
People who have been drinking or are drunk can vote, unless they are disruptive.
Can I bring my children to the polling station?
It's encouraged to bring children to the polling station to help educate them about democracy. However, children are not allowed to mark your vote on the ballot paper.
