Alex Davies-Jones has been re-elected as MP in Pontypridd. Ms Davies-Jones, the former shadow minister for domestic violence and safeguarding, retains the seat she was first elected to in 2019. The party has held the seat within this constituency for over 100 years.

Speaking after the voting results, Ms Davies-Jones said that is the "biggest privilege" of her life to serve Pontypridd. She said: "It’s incredible. It is truly an honour and the biggest privilege of my life to serve my home community as the MP, to be re-elected and hopefully be able to serve as an MP in a governing party as well for the first. I am incredibly grateful to everybody who put their faith in me and re-elected me."

The Pontypridd MP said she will continue to champion for her home community, Pontypridd as she has done since 2019. She said she will continue: "Championing in Pontypridd, ensuring Pontypridd gets that place not just on a UK stage but a global stage, making sure that I champion our constituency and ensuring that we get fair funding, ensuring that we get new investments, jobs, grow the economy, helping local people.

"Truly put meaning behind the phrase ‘levelling up’ that we heard so much about in our previous government and making it a reality this time. Ensuring that communities like ours that have been left behind, former industrial heartlands are given the priority and the stages they deserve because they have a wealth of opportunity, expertise, potential that I want to be able to really champion so that they can thrive and transform themselves.”

With Labour currently holding a majority in the UK, she says that it is a "testament to the work that Keir Starmer’s done."

Parts of three other traditionally-Labour seats came under the banner of Pontypridd from this election following a review of all constituencies in Wales. The new constituency is made up of 70.9% of Pontypridd plus 41.9% of Cynon Valley, a seat being abolished, and 16.4% of Ogmore.

All three of those seats previously elected Labour MPs and Labour had been favourite to win here. The review of boundaries was carried out to shrink the number of constituencies in Wales from 40 to 32 to create more evenly sized seats.
