Popocatepetl Explosion Drives Ash Plumes High Into Mexican Sky

Nighttime footage taken from the foothills of Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano shows a dramatic explosion on January 22.

The footage shows the volcano sending ash plumes high into the sky over San Nicolas de los Ranchos.

A statement from Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention website urged the public “not to approach the volcano and especially the crater, because of the danger involved in the fall of ballistic fragments.”
