Award-winning Aberdeenshire restaurant Eat on the Green has announced it will officially close its doors, after 20 years of trading, on Saturday 28th September 2024.

Directors Craig and Lindsay Wilson put the business up for sale in 2022 and have now made the difficult decision to close the restaurant in six months time.

Since it opened in 2004, Eat on the Green has become one of the most renowned restaurants in the north east, with a loyal customer base and dedicated team of young staff.

The restaurant was named ‘Best Eating Experience’ in Scotland at the 2019 Scottish Thistle Awards, in recognition of Eat on the Green’s commitment to working with local suppliers to access the freshest, homegrown ingredients in their dishes, something which has remained a strong focus. The team also retained their two AA rosettes for Culinary Excellence for the 16th year running, reflecting their dedication to deliver a high-quality food and drink experience.

In 2018 Craig Wilson launched the Kilted Chef Ltd brand, which runs alongside Eat on the Green, delivering a wide range of food and drink projects. Craig also became a regional food tourism Ambassador for Scotland Food and Drink in 2019, supporting the organisation in raising Scotland’s profile as a global food tourism destination.

Eat on the Green has been a long-term supporter of Friends of Anchor, raising over £100,000 for the charity and supporting its aim to ensure cancer and haematology patients received the best possible care and treatment.

Craig Wilson, chef and owner of Eat on the Green restaurant commented: “We put Eat on the Green on the market over two years ago. During this time, it has been ‘business as usual’ as we have continued to deliver the high-quality food and service that we are known for. After careful consideration, we have taken the decision to close the doors of Eat on the Green at the end of September.

“The business will remain up for sale, however we will continue to offer the Kilted Chef Dine at Home restaurant boxes, beyond September. We established this service during covid, and demand remains high for this restaurant-standard dining, enjoyed in the comfort of your own home. I will also be exploring opportunities via the Kilted Chef Ltd company, delivering consultancy support, product development and private catering services.

“During the last 20 years we have been fortunate to play a part in many special moments and milestones. From birthdays and weddings to anniversary celebrations, our sincere thanks goes out to our loyal customers who have supported us. Our dedicated Team Green have been a major part of our success and have worked exceptionally hard to always deliver an outstanding level of service for our guests. We hope to see some familiar faces before we close the doors in September and embark on our next chapter.”

Eat on the Green is a fine-dining restaurant based in the village of Udny Green, Aberdeenshire.
