DEDICATED organisers are putting the finishing touches to preparations for one of Inverclyde's most popular annual events.

The 2024 Gourock Garden Party will be held in Gourock Park on Saturday, June 15 from noon.

Traditionally, the parties always have a theme, and this year's outdoor extravaganza will celebrate 50 years of community councils in Scotland.

Members of Gourock Community Council have been hard at work preparing for the family-focused summertime spectacular for many months.

Community council member Audrey Blincow says the team wanted to use the popular event to recognise the impact that community councils have on people all over Scotland.

She added: "Organising events like this is a big part of our role as community councillors.

"We decided to make this party all about celebrating community councils all over Scotland and everything they achieve in their communities.

"It's always a fantastic event and we're so excited for it again this year."

Audrey and the team, which includes Geraldine Harron, Andrew King, Danny Cassidy, and Caroline Duncan, have made sure that there will be something there for people of all ages on the day.

For the youngsters, there will be activities including storytelling in the Fairy Glen, a treasure hunt, and face painting.

Families can enjoy performances from the Clydeside Singers, dancing demonstrations, and shows in the amphitheatre.

Representatives from community groups all over Inverclyde and beyond will have stalls in the park on the day.

Sports fans can try crazy golf and boccia, and there will be a trishaw on show for anyone who wants to find out about a different mode of transport.

People can watch wood turning demonstrations, and holistic therapy and meditation experts will be on-hand with advice.

Gourock Park Bowling Club is set to open for refreshments, and people will be able to enjoy live music and open mic sessions.

Members of the Scouts, Guides, and Boys Brigade will be in attendance, and people can also sample delights from the tearoom and the barbecue.

Community council member Geraldine Harron says the Gourock event is known all over the world, and in the past has seen visitors from as far afield as Australia.

She's hopeful that people from all over Gourock and beyond will be there on the day.

Community council member Audrey said a huge 'thank-you' to Inverclyde Shed, Inverclyde Council, Inverclyde Leisure, and Heather and the team in the garden for all their support.

She said she's sure it will be a great day.

Audrey added: "It's always a fantastic family fun day out and is a lovely relaxed day with a lot of activities.

"We're looking forward to seeing people gathering together and celebrating their communities."
