Popular Indian restaurant to be turned into six-bed house with swimming pool

Cheshire East Council has given the go-ahead for a popular Indian restaurant to be converted into a six-bed house with swimming pool. Mohammed Koyes applied to the council last year for permission to convert The Viceroy on Ingersley Road, Bollington, into a house.

Permission was granted this week by a planning officer under delegated authority. Several neighbours had objected to the proposal – some because of the loss of the restaurant and others said the large property would not be in keeping with the character of the area.

Rainow Parish Council also objected saying: “The proposals are relatively large compared to the surrounding buildings and will impose on the existing streetscape.” Bollington Town Council did not object.

The report from the Cheshire East planning officer states: “Consultation comments with regards to a loss of business are noted. Agent confirmed that the site was not advertised for sale and that the restaurant is currently operating and due to the owner’s need to retire, the application was submitted to change the use to a dwelling."

It adds: "Considering that the site sits within the residential neighbourhood of Bollington and that the planning policy doesn’t constrain the proposed change of use, there is no policy reason to refuse this submission in principle.”

60 firefighters tackle balcony blaze in central London flats
Firefighters can be seen tackling a blazing fire in a residential block in central London. The footage, taken by an anonymous bystander, shows a raging fire in the four-bed flat on the third floor of a 22-storey residential block in Spitalfields, London. Around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines attended the scene, with onlookers reporting a response time of around 10 minutes. One woman was led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, and a further three people were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service.
