A four day beer and cider festival returns to Northumberland in June after raising more than £1 million for local good causes since it was established in 2002.

The Tynedale Beer and Cider Festival started as a small and modest event organised by Tynedale Rugby Club and the Tynedale Lions. It was originally held in the clubhouse building at Tynedale Park with the aim of raising funds for good causes in the region and the rugby club itself.

Today it is held in a huge marquee with people coming from all across the region, and is arguably one of the highlights of the Tyne Valley summer events calendar. This year's four-day festival not only offers visitors the chance to sample a range of beers and ciders, but to enjoy live music, street food, rugby and other entertainment.

More than 120 beers will be on offer this year, all checked by local CAMRA officials, in additions to traditional cider and perry, wine, prosecco, gin and rum. The Big Gig, which was established in 2022, also returns, showcasing local talent under the age of 18.

A number of bands and acts have been selected to perform at the festival and are currently being coached and supported by Katy Trigger (touring with Maximo Park) in collaboration with Core Music in Hexham.

Ian Cave, chair of the Tynedale Beer and Cider Festival Committee, said: "After 23 years, we are delighted to still be producing this amazing, volunteer run festival to the very high standard that we do. Every year it gets a little bit better and 2024 is no exception.

"We are working hard behind the scenes at the moment to open on June 13 with a fantastic range of beers, ciders and other drinks plus some top class entertainment, a family fun day on Saturday and of course, some rugby! It’s a great day out for all."

Tynedale Beer Festival takes place from Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16 at Tynedale Park in Corbridge.
