Popular quiz show shelved as host says he has 'heard nothing'

A popular quiz show which has been aired since 2003 has been shelved, according to the host, with no new episodes filmed and no news on any more coming. Eggheads was launched on BBC1 in 2023, then moved to BBC2 before being picked up by Channel 5 in 2021.

But host Jeremy Vine says he has not filmed any new episodes in two years, according to The Sun. He said: "I think I have done about 1,200 shows - but whether we are doing any more, I don't know.

"We last filmed an episode over a year ago. It may well be we are doing it in 30 years' time, who knows, but no immediate plans for any more.'

The show was first hosted by Dermot Murnaghan before Jeremy joined in 2008, taking over as full-time host in 2021.

The show pits members of the public in teams against a panel of Eggheads - experts who have won major national quiz championships and TV shows.

Eggheads have included Judith Keppel, winner of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire; Daphne Fowler, Brain of Britain Champion; Chris Hughes, master of Mastermind; CJ de Mooi, a Mensa Chess Champion and Kevin Ashman, five-time winner of the European Quizzing Championships.

If the Eggheads win the prize rolls over.
