Popular restaurant put up for sale for the first time in almost 100 years

A POPULAR town centre restaurant in Weymouth has been put up for sale - for the first time in around 100 years.

The Criterion restaurant, which has entrances on both St Mary Street and on the Esplanade, is on the market having been closed for a few months.

Covering more than 5,000 square feet, the property includes a first-floor wine bar.

According to the details from the Symonds and Sampson brochure, this is the first time that the property has been made available for purchase since the 1920s.

The restaurant has been closed since late December, with the agency saying that the building is ‘currently closed for the season’ in the brochure.

Currently, the building’s freehold is listed for sale at £500,000 or £35,000 per annum to rent.

The Echo has attempted to contact the restaurant's owners for comment.
