The future of a Chandler's Ford restaurant is uncertain as part of plans by its parent company to slash 1,500 jobs across the chain.

The Beefeater restaurant on Bournemouth Road could be impacted after plans were revealed by Whitbread to slash the workforce, adding that it has agreed to sell off 21 of its restaurants.

The plans are part of a four-year “accelerating growth plan” for the company, which owns Premier Inn.

This comes in contrast to Whitbread’s 13 per cent increase in sales and a 36 per cent in adjusted profit before tax to £561 million this year.

A spokesperson for the chain has confirmed the plans “could impact the site” but added: “it's worth noting the site is open and trading as usual”.

It went on: “We recognise that this will be unsettling for our team members, and we are providing them with dedicated support.

“We are committed to working hard to enable as many as possible of our affected team members to stay with us, by either transferring into new roles or by taking up other vacancies across the business more broadly through our existing recruitment activity.”
