The Poundland store on Freeman Street is set to close its doors for the final time next month.

After opening to the public just seven months ago in November, replacing the longstanding Wilko store following its closure, the store will now close on Tuesday, July 2.

A large sign on the window of the Grimsby store reads: "Sorry. We're closing 2nd July. Visit our website for other nearby stores. Poundland.co.uk."

Poundland's owner, Pepco Group, agreed to take over more than 70 Wilko store leases across the country following a last-minute deal in September last year.

Within weeks, the company re-opened the shops with its own branding and by December, it had hired nearly 1,000 ex-Wilko staff members.

But just months later, many of the rebranded stores have now closed, with the Freeman Street branch soon to be among them.

Poundland has not yet responded to Grimsby Live's requests for comment.
