Power Prequel Series in the Works at Starz, Will Chronicle Origins of Ghost and Tommy

Starz continues to Power up its decade-old crime drama franchise.

The cabler announced on Wednesday that it is developing Origins, a prequel series that promises to “explore the ‘Power’ universe in a fresh way” as it delves into the backstory of fan-favorite characters Ghost and Tommy (originally played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora).

If ordered to series, Origins would mark the fourth Power spinoff, following Power Book II: Ghost (which premiered in September 2020 and will release its fourth season in 2024), Power Book III: Raising Kanan (which debuted in July 2021 and is currently filming Season 4 in New York) and Power Book IV: Force (which launched in February 2022 and is currently filming its third season in Chicago).

“As we approach the 10-year anniversary of Power (which premiered in June 2014), it is incredible to witness the enormous connection our fans have with the Power universe,” Kathryn Busby, President of Programming for Starz, said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see how Origins will further evolve this dynamic franchise while bringing fresh, gripping, and expansive storytelling to our audience.”

Raising Kanan showrunner Sascha Penn will serve as an executive producer on Origins, while the Power Universe as a whole is executive-produced by Courtney A. Kemp, the creator and showrunner of the original Power, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Mark Canton.
