President Biden Speaks at Atlanta's Morehouse College

President Joe Biden gave the commencement address at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, May 19.

The men’s-only college is one of the United States’ Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Biden’s appearance drew protests and criticism, particularly surrounding the Israel-Hamas war, which Biden referred to as a “humanitarian crisis,” and the United States’ role in providing funding and arms to Israel. News reports said some graduates at the ceremony turned their backs to Biden during his speech and protesters gathered outside Morehouse campus on Sunday.

Biden touched on several topics, including democracy, his administration’s work benefitting Black Americans, and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Biden said he has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to “bring the hostages home.” Credit: White House via Storyful
