Pretty Woman is a fun night out for everyone who loved the film

Love Island and Strictly Come Dancing winners are taking to the stage in Devon this week in the cast of Pretty Woman the musical. The show stars Ore Oduba, who won the dancing glitterball in 2016 and Love Island's Amber Davies who partnered Kem to win the Love Island prize in 2017.

Amber takes on the lead role as Vivian Ward, made famous by Julia Roberts, and I had to do a double take as I pondered to myself 'Is that the girl from Love Island?' when she belted out her first solo Anywhere but Here. Yes - she can sing and more than holds her own which I was pleasantly surprised to see. She has already taken on roles in 9 to 5 and Back to the Future in the West End before landing this lead and I'm sure she will have a successful future ahead. She was maybe still lacking some confidence to begin with on opening night as she pulled at her mini skirt outfit but she really shouldn't doubt herself and gave .

Ore also charms us with his infectious enthusiasm and likeability, popping up all over the place in the role of Happy Man, Mr Thompson and others.

The pair are the reality star names but most people will be turning out for their love of the blockbuster film, released in 1990, on which the musical is based.

It has all they key moments, outfits and memorable lines you would expect set alongside songs and lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance.

Iconic segments in the film are somewhat lost on the stage and the best scene in the stage production is undoubtedly the visit to the opera with Lila Falce-Bass providing a kick-ass professional debut as opera star Violetta. This is put together to great effect with the opera cast surrounding the box containing our couple as they fall in love.

Natalie Paris as Kit De Luca is also another powerhouse to be reckoned with and proves her voice and stage presence to be top notch.

This smash-hit production had its world premiere at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre in March 2018 before transferring to Broadway. The German production opened in Hamburg in September 2019 to rave reviews, and a US Tour of the show opened in October 2021. The West End production was well received before this ensuring tour.

For those of us who loved the film it's a fun night out.

Pretty Woman is at Plymouth's Theatre Royal until Saturday, April 20.
