Primark making major change to all 184 UK stores after successful trial

File photo dated 20/1/2022 of a branch of Primark. Primark parent firm Associated British Foods (ABF) is expected to announce another rise in sales when it updates investors next week. However, disruption from delayed shipments due to travel through the Red Sea, weaker UK high street footfall and wage hikes from April could all pose a challenge to the firm's recent progress. Shares in the company, which also owns large grocery and agriculture operations, have lifted by about a quarter over the past 12 months. Issue date: Sunday January 21, 2024. PA Photo. High street retailer Primark has announced the expansion of one of its services to all of its 184 UK stores. Primark's click and collect will be rolled out to all stores in England, Scotland and Wales by the end of 2025.

The news comes after its owner’s, Associated British Foods, pre-tax profits grew significantly by 37% to £881 million. Retail Gazette reported that the Irish retailer had also seen a “significant increase” in adjusted operating profits, increasing 46% to £508 million.

Its click and collect service has been rolled out to a fraction of its stores in an 18-month trial. Primark’s sales jumped 7.5% to £4.5 billion in the 24 weeks to March 2, as like-for-like sales edged up 2.1%.

As well as the expansion of this service, Primark will also be adding new categories and products available to buy online. Men’s clothes and a number of home and lifestyle products are to join the nationwide expansion.

Paul Marchant, Primark chief executive officer, said: “Our trial of click and collect over the last 18 months has been about understanding how we can offer our customers greater convenience to shop with us wherever they are, but in a way that complements our business and our stores.”

“We’re now confident that we’ve found a model that can do both and support us with our plans to grow the business. The feedback from our customers has been positive as they really value the convenience our service offers and we’re also seeing it’s reaching new customers too. I am excited to see this expand and give more people more reasons to choose Primark and discover the great value and ranges we have in store.”
