Woman arrested on suspicion of drug driving after Mercedes smashes into primary school
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a car crashed into a primary school during the morning school run.
Merseyside police took a 39-year-old from Walton into custody after being called to reports of a collision at about 8.30am on Monday.
She was later arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs and careless driving, police said.
Officers attended the scene at The Beacon Primary School in Everton, Merseyside. A white Mercedes had gone through the wall of the school and could be seen inside a classroom.
The female motorist was assessed at the scene, with a passenger in the vehicle sustaining a minor injury. No other injuries were reported.
The school was evacuated and closed while the building is assessed for structural damage. The public was being told to avoid the area.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “No children were present in the area of the collision.
“The building will be assessed for any structural damage. The school will be closed for the rest of the day and road closures are in place. Please avoid the area.”
The Beacon Primary School was contacted for comment.
