Prime Video confirms release date for Tom Hopper's new movie Space Cadet

The release date for Coalville actor Tom Hopper’s new space-themed movie has been revealed. The Umbrella Academy star becomes a brainbox for his new role that aims to reach the stars and tickle many funny bones.

Tom, who was born in Coalville and attended Ashby School, is among the lead stars for Prime Video’s Space Cadet which follows Emma Roberts’ Tiffany ‘Rex’ Simpson as she flukes her way to fulfilling her lifelong ambition of becoming an astronaut. Florida girl Rex somehow makes it onto the NASA training programme despite not being qualified, much to her’s and everyone else’s shock.

It’s at NASA where Rex will meet programme director Logan - portrayed by Leicestershire man Tom. Trailers reveal him to be the straight man to Rex’s comedy offerings as becoming an astronaut is much harder than she thought.

Starring alongside Emma and Tom in the movie are Poppy Lui as Rex’s best friend Nadia and Gabrielle Union as fellow NASA programme director Pam. It is Pam and Logan who take a shine to Rex’s ambition despite her clearly not fitting the bill with many of NASA’s higher-ups.

The comedy will see Rex use her “quick wits, moxie and determination” to make the most of the adventure of a lifetime. However, not everything will go to plan as the underqualified candidate comes up against a number of hysterical obstacles.

Space Cadet is written and directed by Liz W. Garcia, with Prime Video saying the movie is all about the “power of being yourself” and “shooting for the stars”. Space Cadet launches on Prime Video on Thursday, July 4.
