Prime Video’s ‘El Gato’ Adds Eric Lange & Alfonso Dosal As Series Regulars

EXCLUSIVE: Eric Lange (Escape At Dannemora) and Alfonso Dosal (Narcos) have joined the Prime Video series El Gato (w/t) as series regulars. They join the previously announced cast Diego Boneta, Lorenza Izzo, Sarah Jones and Adriana Barraza.

Based on the comic series El Gato Negro by Richard Dominguez, El Gato follows Frank Guerrero (Boneta), who returns home to Mexico after the death of his father and finds himself neck-deep in a nest of vipers – his estranged family – who are vying for control of his father’s business empire. But Frank’s grief is interrupted when he learns his only inheritance, a seemingly worthless parcel of land on the border, sits atop the lair of a famous costumed vigilante — his father, “El Gato.” Now, Frank is in the crosshairs. To survive, he’ll have to solve mysteries decades in the making and unravel the truth about his father’s connections to a modern-day terror plot.

Lange has been cast as Simon Casimir aka The Nazarite, an ascetic, monk-like, warrior. Simon was long burdened with the sins he committed as the country’s top assassin – until he was offered a shot at redemption. Focused on atoning for his past, Simon called himself “The Nazarite” (like Samson, in the Bible). The Nazarite has strength far beyond that of an ordinary man. He believes this power is God-given, a reward for his strict vows of self-denial, but the truth is more complicated. He is a terrifying force of nature, but he is also damaged and sympathetic – a tragic hero. Somewhere between Doc Holliday, Don Quixote and the Jackal. This season will test his faith.

Dosal has been cast as Alejandro Guerrero, interim CEO of a billion-dollar family-owned agriculture business. Alejandro is shrewd and Oxford-educated. He leads a lavish lifestyle but takes little pleasure in it. Though he is technically our hero’s nephew, the pair are more like estranged brothers and rivals. The strain of a troubled marriage and corporate intrigue have exacerbated Alejandro’s insecurities. But in the series, we will see his ambition and the jealousy he bears for his “uncle”, push him past his fears and lead him down… a treacherous path.

Eric Carrasco created the series and will co-showrun with Turi Meyer and Alfredo Septién. In addition to Carrasco, the series is executive produced by Boneta, Meyer, Septién, Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures, Andrew Mittman of 1.21, and Carla Gonzalez Vargas; and co-executive produced by Kai Dolbashian, Marilu G. Carranza and Joel Novoa-Schneider. El Gato is being produced by MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios.

Lange received a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for his role in Showtime’s Escape At Dannemora. He was recently in HBO’s period drama Perry Mason and Apple TV+’s limited series Sugar. Prior credits include Beacon 23 for AMC; Netflix’s Narcos; Netflix’s Unbelievable and the limited series Brand New Cherry Flavor; and Showtime’s Weeds. He is repped by Innovative Artists and Trademark Talent.

Dosal is best known by U.S. audiences for his portrayal of Mexican druglord Benjamín Arellano Félix in Netflix’s hit series Narcos: Mexico. He also has extensive credits in Spanish-language soap operas. Most recently, he starred in the series AquÍ en la Tierra, the film Sin Hijos (2020), the film Huesera and the series El Elegido. He can currently be seen in Netflix’s Bandidos and Bad Actor. Dosal is represented by Lumina Management
