The Duke of York told a 17-year-old Virginia Roberts Giuffre he had daughters “a little bit younger than you” when he first met her, she has claimed.

Ms Roberts Giuffre, who appears in a new Netflix documentary about Jeffrey Epstein, said the Duke had correctly guessed her age after being introduced by Ghislaine Maxwell.

Describing their first encounter at Ms Maxwell’s London house, she went on to accuse the Duke of sexually assaulting her.

The Duke, who maintains he has “absolutely no recollection of ever having meeting” Ms Roberts Giuffre, is named as part of a four-hour documentary into the disgraced financier.

Entitled Filthy Rich, it includes testimony from numerous survivors, witnesses and associates to examine “how convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein used his wealth and power to carry out his abuses,” Netflix said.

Ms Roberts Giuffre claims she was trafficked to the UK in 2001 by Epstein and was forced to have sex with the Duke on three occasions in 2001 and 2002, when she was 17.

In the new interview, she describes how she was introduced to the Duke in March 2001 by Ms Maxwell who liked to play a “favourite guessing game”.

“She goes to Prince Andrew: ‘How old do you think Virginia is?” said Ms Roberts Giuffre. “He said 17. And she’s like: ‘Oh you’re right’. They made a little joke about it.

“He’s like: ‘Oh my daughters aren’t far from your age. My daughter’s a little bit younger than you’.”

At the time, Princess Beatrice would have been 12 years and seven months old, and Princess Eugenie nearly 11.

Asked about the Duke’s Newsnight interview about his involvement with Epstein, Ms Roberts Giuffre said:  “I didn't expect him to put his hand up and say I'm guilty. I didn't. But some form of remorse or acknowledgement would have been better."

A spokesman for the Duke said: “As we have said many times before, the Duke has absolutely no recollection of ever having met Virginia Roberts.”

The programme also hears from Steve Scully, a former employee of Epstein who alleges he saw the Duke with a young woman he now knows to be Virginia Giuffre in the pool on Epstein's private island in the Caribbean.

"It was probably around 2004 I saw Prince Andrew," he said. "He was at the pool, he was with, at that time, an unknown girl to me, she was young, she didn't have any top on, they were engaged in foreplay, he was grabbing her and grinding against her."

Responding the allegation, a friend said previously: "We question why it has taken this witness nearly 20 years to come forward to share his recollections, but it perhaps explains why they are somewhat faulty.

"The Duke was actually staying on the island with his girlfriend at the time, a woman in her 30s.

"As usual, there is no accusation of any criminality, just insinuation and innuendo designed to traduce the Duke - the latest in the on-going smear campaign - waged now for some 10 years.”
