Prince Harry and his father, King Charles, reportedly had a disagreement over the Duke's recent visit to the UK.

The prince travelled alone to his homeland while Meghan Markle and their children remained in the US. Despite being accompanied by members of his late mother's family at the Invictus Games, no Royal family members were present to welcome him.

A statement from Harry's team released days before his visit read: "It unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty''s full programme. The Duke of course is understanding of his father's diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon."

However, there are conflicting reports suggesting that the monarch did offer to meet his son. It's reported by the Mirror that this offer was declined by the Duke.

Sources also claimed that Harry turned down an offer from his father to stay in a Royal residence during his trip, choosing instead to stay in a hotel. The Sunday Times reported that Charles agreed to this arrangement as he understood his son no longer had an official residence in the UK.

A Royal expert has suggested that the confusion arose due to a lack of communication between the PR teams of the Sussexes and the King. Royal historian Dr Judith Rowbotham told i: "There is no real connection between their [Sussexes's] PR team and the King's PR team because that would be constitutionally improper."

"If they were acting together you could create a situation where the King would be ignoring government restraints."

She further explained that Harry is no longer "part of the state structure" after stepping back from Royal duties in 2020.

Harry and his wife Meghan have been in Nigeria over the weekend, attending various events as part of their tour. The final leg saw the couple in high spirits at a charity polo match and gala fundraising dinner.

The Sussexes were the guests of honour at the fundraiser, which was held to support injured veterans. Meghan, 42, changed into her third outfit of the day and seemed to be enjoying herself as she joined Harry to watch the tournament.

It remains unclear whether footage from the event will feature in Harry's upcoming documentary on the sport for Netflix.
