Despite recent reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are "desperately" trying to reconnect with their sister-in-law Kate Middleton amid her cancer treatment, the former Fabulous Four will never get back to the way things used to be, according to the New York Post.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold told the outlet that the group's relationship is past the point of no return, as “too much damage” has been caused at this point. The brothers previously had a close relationship, which trickled into Harry and Kate's friendship prior to his meeting Markle.

“[Harry] caused damage and broke down trust,” Butler told the publication. “It’s difficult when you’re a future monarch.”

“I doubt they’ll ever get back the relationship they had originally. That was a very different relationship built on trust,” the former employee of King Charles added. “It’s going to take time. William is a tough character. He’s a good guy.”

While it seems highly "unlikely," Harrold hopes that the foursome can eventually get past their differences.

“I’d like to think that their relationship will get back on track,” he said. “But yes, it is unlikely.”

In the meantime, the California-based Sussexes have been keeping up with Middleton's cancer journey via the news, like everyone else. They hope that this could all lead to a "truce."

“Both Harry and Meghan have been following Kate’s recovery with huge interest, but, sadly, it’s had to be more from afar because their lines of communication with the palace and the Waleses, in particular, are very limited, to say the least,” a source told OK!. “They have had enough information to know that people are excited about the idea of a comeback for Kate, and they’re both relieved and happy to hear that she’s on the mend and may soon be well enough to return to her duties.”
