Reports suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had to give up a £2.5m home in the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly had a two-year tenure on an estate in the Cotswolds, with the lease supposedly being signed just prior to their nuptials in May 2018.

Subsequent to tying the knot, Harry and Meghan relocated to Frogmore Cottage, post a refurbishment of the Windsor property. According to reports, while awaiting completion of renovations, the Sussexes took up residence in the Oxfordshire estate, which was valued at over £2.5m back in 2018.

The Grade II listed abode is comprised of three main constructions: the core farmhouse; a detached two-bedroom cottage catering to staff and guests; and a reworked barn hosting a kitchen on each of its two floors. The central farmhouse flaunts four bedrooms, reports the Mirror.

A pal of Harry and Meghan professed that the couple "loved walking the dogs there and entertaining their friends in complete solitude" at this Oxfordshire retreat. It's said they had reputed guests like George and Amal Clooney during their stay.

Harry and Meghan were asked to leave Frogmore Cottage last year. They left their Windsor home and abandoned Britain altogether in 2020, stepping down from their prominent royal roles and relocating to the States.

Harry reflected on his time at Frogmore in his memoir Spare, writing: "Once upon a time, this was going to be my forever home. Instead, it had proved to be just another brief stop."

After his explosive book made waves, the Sussexes were told they could no longer stay at the cottage - marking the end of any UK residence for them. A spokesperson confirmed at the time: "We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage."

Royal biographer Tom Quinn said earlier this year: "Harry was absolutely furious and in tears about being evicted from Frogmore he felt his father had no right to do it and that it was purely vindictive.

"Harry couldn't see that choosing to stop being a working royal would inevitably mean being deprived of his royal residence."
