Prince Harry has been dealt a significant setback as his request to broaden his legal action against News Group Newspapers, including claims involving Meghan Markle, was denied.

Harry has accused journalists of illegal conduct and in March, he attempted to expand his lawsuit by alleging that private investigators were ordered to pursue Meghan in 2016.

Royal expert Michael Cole has cautioned the Duke of Sussex about the potential financial risks of persisting with his numerous legal battles. He highlighted the "extremely expensive process" of litigation, noting that Harry is now responsible for his own legal fees, reports the Mirror.

While speaking on GB News, Michael remarked: "He's taking on the red top tabloids and the middle market tabloids and he wants to win the day. Whether he is wise to do that I'm not sure. You can burn through a lot of money very, very quickly."

Michael further commented: "You can very, very quickly dissipate your fortune by investing too much in the law."

With an estimated joint net worth of £48 million for Meghan and Harry, Michael suggests their wealth could be easily depleted.

Harry has been denied permission to add allegations relating to Meghan and further claims of phone hacking - but he was granted the ability to make allegations against "certain further journalists and private investigators".

News Group Newspapers, which owns The Sun, has consistently denied any unlawful activity. Additionally, claims involving Rupert Murdoch have been excluded from Prince Harry's upcoming High Court trial set for January 2025.

Mr Justice Fancourt ruled out the additional allegations against Rupert, stating they added "nothing material" to the case. He expressed: "I am disposed to take a restrictive approach to allowing the proposed amendments, on grounds of delay and because permitting all the amendments will either prejudice the trial date or at least create an unlevel playing field on which NGN is running uphill to be ready for the full trial."

He also highlighted concerns about the volume of new allegations, saying: "The claimants have sought to introduce a vast quantity of new allegations and material, much of which is likely to be highly contentious, and there is no prospect of the time listed for trial accommodating these allegations."
