Prince Philip issued warning about Meghan Markle to late Queen as he was 'wary' of her

Prince Philip is said to have been worried about Meghan Markle when she first appeared on the scene and issued a warning about her to the late Queen, according to a royal expert.

While Her Majesty initially had high hopes for Prince Harry's future wife, her husband, who passed away in 2021, was "wary" of the former Suits actress from the get go.

The late Duke of Edinburgh drew comparisons between Meghan and Wallis Simpson, another American divorcee who married into the Royal Family, the Mirror reports.

Writing in her book 'My Mother and I', royal author Ingrid Seward explained: "Soon the country as a whole seemed to take to Meghan with equally genuine delight.

"One of the few wary of succumbing to her charm offensive, however, was Prince Philip. While the Queen continued to champion Harry's new love, he warned his wife to be cautious.

"Queen Elizabeth II was perfectly aware of what Philip meant when he drew parallels between Meghan and Wallis. Indeed, much later, she would remark in her clipped way that perhaps Harry had been 'too in love' with the American actress."

The royal commentator later stated that Philip even had a nickname for the duchess based on her similarities with Walls but he never shared it with her directly or mentioned it in her presence.

During an interview with GB News, Seward said: "I think Prince Philip was very canny about people and he didn't always see the bad in them, he tried to see the good in them.

"I think he just couldn't get away from the fact [of the] similarities between Meghan and Harry and Edward and Mrs Simpson."

She continued: "There are so many similarities which is why he used to call her The Duchess of Windsor, I mean not to her face. We used to call her dow - DoW [the abbreviation for Duchess of Windsor]."

Meghan and Harry made their shock exit from the Firm back in 2020 as they relocated to the US to start a new life, where they currently live with their two kids.

The Duke of Sussex is set to visit the UK next month for the Invictus Games' 10 year anniversary but it's thought that Meghan will likely remain in the States amid safety concerns and not wanting to cause a 'drama' by visiting Britain.

The 42-year-old has made barely any trips back to the UK since the pair quit their royal duties over four years ago.T

The last time Meghan stepped on British soil was for the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral back in 2022 as she made the decision to skip King Charles III's coronation, which Harry attended alone.

Charles Rae, former royal correspondent for The Sun, previously said: "I'm of the opinion that Megan won't set foot in the UK ever again. I just don't think she wants her to have anything to do at all with this country.

"I don't believe that she understood the pecking order of the royal family. You've got the monarch, you've got the Prince of Wales and then you've got everyone else under that.

"She wanted to be the star and that I think it was that simple that she thought. She just picked up her toys and decided to go off to America."

Meanwhile British commentator Esther Krakue addressed rumours that Meghan will join her husband during his trip back to the UK next month.

Speaking on GB News, she said: "I actually think she's avoiding the UK because she's not interested in the whole drama and, kind of, being injected, is she going to talk to [Princess] Kate, and all of that.

"I personally think she's not going to come because, obviously, Harry has lost his case with the Home Office and he said he doesn't feel safe bringing his family over [to the UK] and I also think this is going to be a time where distance between the Sussexes and the Royal Family will be calcified because the focus will obviously be on the Princess of Wales and the King recovering, they don't need the whole Netflix drama."
