The Prince and Princess of Wales have reportedly put a significant work decision on hold as Kate continues her recovery from cancer. Kate, 42, underwent major abdominal surgery earlier this year, which was followed by a cancer diagnosis.

In an emotional statement in March, she revealed she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy and requested "some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment". In the same message, Kate spoke about how her work has given her "a deep sense of joy", adding "I look forward to being back when I am able."

Last year, it was reported according to the Mirror that the couple were seeking a chief executive officer to manage their household and had engaged global recruitment firm Odgers Berndtson to find the perfect candidate, who would have an "impressive' track record, brim with "emotional intelligence".

This move was seen as a significant departure from the traditional Royal household structure, which typically sees senior royals appoint private secretaries to manage their schedules.

However, amid Kate's recovery, the search for a new CEO has been paused, with the Daily Mail reporting "the Royal Household's focus is on the Princess's recovery."

Columnist Richard Eden has reported a source stating: "No one wants to put any pressure on Catherine. The only thing that matters at the moment is her getting better. She has been through an ordeal this year.

"What this means in practice is that big decisions, such as the appointment of new staff, can wait. It's a reflection of Her Royal Highness's importance to the future of the monarchy that she has been given as much time as she needs."

While Princess Kate has been absent from public duties for some time due to her recovery, Prince William has continued with engagements.

During these public appearances, the Prince of Wales has provided some reassuring updates about his family. Last month, while visiting a suicide prevention charity in Newcastle, he engaged with well-wishers, including Julie Cain, 60, who enquired about his family.

Prince William responded: "All doing well, thank you. Yes, we're doing well." Furthermore, a few weeks ago, during a visit to a hospital, the future King shared another update regarding Kate. This occurred on a trip to the Isles of Scilly, where he toured St. Mary's Community Hospital.

Upon his arrival, Prince William was greeted by Tracy Smith, the hospital's administrator. She enquired about the health of the future Queen, to which the Prince responded, "doing well".

Recalling the interaction later, Tracy said: "I asked how Princess Kate was and how the children were and said I hoped they would enjoy some time here over the summer. He said he would very much like that to be able to happen."
