Prince William says Kate 'doing well' during his visit to Cornwall

The Prince of Wales has said his wife Kate is “doing well” following her cancer diagnosis.

William gave the update during his first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming Duke of Cornwall, a title he holds in addition to his Prince of Wales title.

In March the Princess of Wales revealed she is being treated for cancer in an emotional video statement released by Kensington Palace.

William visited St Mary's Community Hospital on Friday, and could not resist stopping to buy a traditional pasty.

The Prince, known locally as the Duke of Cornwall, arrived on St Mary’s by boat, having travelled from Tresco, one of the smaller islands.

As he disembarked The Pegasus, which bore the Duke of Cornwall flag, a small cheer went up from a throng of onlookers on the harbour.

The Prince hailed the “glorious” weather before strolling to the On the Quay cafe, where he bought five traditional pasties for £5.50 each.

Outside, the heir to the throne was greeted a group of tourists lined up on the harbour to meet him, admitting he wished he could stay.

“My family are very upset I’m here without them,” he laughed. “The children will kill me if I don’t go home later.”

Meanwhile his brother Prince Harry and wife Meghan began a three-day visit to Nigeria.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex started their trip on Friday with a welcome at the Nigerian Defence HQ in capital Abuja to promote the Prince’s Invictus Games.

The trip comes just days after Harry gave a speech at St Paul’s Cathedral in London to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

He did not meet with the King during his flying visit to the UK, despite the King hosting his first garden party of the season at nearby Buckingham Palace on the same evening.

On Thursday Charles, who is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Engineers, visited the 3 Royal School of Military Engineering in Minley, Surrey, and is understood to have also received cancer treatment as an outpatient midweek.

The King quipped that he was thrilled to be "out of my cage”.
