Princess Charlene of Monaco, Halle Berry and More Stars Lead Olympic Torch Relay Ahead of Paris Games

As the world eagerly anticipates the Paris Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, the Olympic flame’s journey to the city of lights continues to captivate audiences worldwide. On Tuesday, the torch made an appearance during the 2024 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity with Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry leading the way down the Croisette in Cannes.

Berry brought a touch of star-studded elegance to the event being one of the 10,000 people who were selected to carry the torch for the Olympic Games. She made her way down the boulevard wearing the 2024 edition of the Torch Relay uniform, which features a minimal design with an orange band down the arms before passing the torch onto five-time Olympian and a three-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White.

In an unexpected twist, the Olympic torch made an impromptu detour into Monaco during its journey through the Alpes-Maritimes. The torch was carried by six Monegasque relay runners. The journey began at the statue of Juan Manuel Fangio at Port Hercule, with Formula 1 champion Charles Leclerc as the first relay runner.

Following Leclerc, the torch was passed to skier Alexandra Coletti, table tennis player Xiaoxin Yang and bobsleigh driver Rudy Rinaldi. The relay culminated with Monaco’s Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene carrying the flame in front of the statue of Malizia at Palace Square. This momentous event marked the first passage of the Olympic flame through Monaco in 56 years, harking back to its journey to the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble.

All of the torchbearers wore Olympics’ branded gear.

The Olympic Torch Relay, a tradition that honors the origins of the Olympic Games, was ignited by the sun’s rays during a ceremony at the sanctuary of Olympia, Greece. Following this, the flame traveled to Athens and the Belem to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Marseille. On May 8, the Olympic flame embarked on its extensive journey across France, which it will continue until it reaches Paris, where the Summer Games will be held from July 26 to Aug. 11.
