The tribute opened with a picture of Ernest sitting in the grass, taken from behind and wearing a sports jersey featuring the number nine and his nickname, Ernie. Shortly after Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed their second son in May 2023, proud grandmother Sarah Ferguson confirmed that her family was calling Ernest by the moniker on her podcast, Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah.

The Duchess of York, 64, also said on the show that it "made me cry" when Eugenie and Jack told her that they chose the name Ernest George Ronnie for their younger son, his second middle name a tribute to her late father, Major Ronald Ferguson.

Prince Andrew and Fergie's younger daughter is one of the few members of the next generation of the royal family to maintain a public presence on social media and is known to post tributes for her loved ones’ birthdays. On May 3, Eugenie posted three new photos to mark Jack’s 38th birthday, including a silly shot of him playing with August.

"Happy Happy Birthday my love. Always making joy wherever you are. 😍😍😍," Princess Eugenie captioned the images on Instagram.

The montage opened with a picture of Princess Eugenie and Jack during a glam date night at the inaugural Winter Gala for her charity The Anti-Slavery Collective in November 2023 and segued to a picture of Jack and Ernest playing on the beach, where the doting dad had seaweed under his hat! The royal’s birthday tribute to her husband of five years wrapped with a snap of them together on the beach before sunset, raising their arms in the air.

In a relatable revelation, Princess Eugenie previously spoke about the pressure of maintaining a social media presence and feeling like the hype is heightened as a public figure.

"I do my own Instagram and I find it the most stressful thing in the world," Eugenie said on the White Wine Question Time podcast in October 2023. "Oh my God, I get so nervous. Before I post I have to text about five people asking if it’s okay, have I got a spelling mistake, am I gonna get in trouble?"

Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter admitted that she was "very nervous" about starting an Instagram account in 2018 but took the risk.

"I want people to know me,” she said, explaining that there has been "so much misinformation."
