Princess Kate makes first public appearance since cancer diagnosis at Trooping the Colour

Kate Middleton has made a return to public life, after arriving at Buckingham Palace to attend the Trooping the Colour.

A carriage containing Princess Kate with her three children has been seen leaving Buckingham Palace this Saturday morning to attend the King's formal birthday celebrations. It is her first public outing in 2024 and since being diagnosed with cancer, reports the Mirror.

The royal was first seen arriving earlier in a maroon car with her three children and husband William. Prince George, 10 sat between mum and Dad, with Prince Charlotte, Nine, and five year-old Prince Louis seen looking out the windows.

Amid her on-going cancer battle, it was unclear whether Princess Kate would attend the formal occasion. The 42-year old delighted millions when it was confirmed that she would join her children in a state carriage down The Mall for the big family moment.

Yesterday, Kate the Princess of Wales said in a heartfelt message that she had been "blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement" but added she is not "out of the woods yet." She added that she was "looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend".

Royal wellwishers can expect to see Kate from about 12.20 today in the carriage, but we may see her even sooner leaving Buckingham Palace, while Prince William will take part in the military parade on horseback. The royals will then appear on the balcony for the Red Arrow flypast at about 1pm.

Back in March, the princess revealed in a poignant video she had been diagnosed with cancer. In her latest address, published on Twitter, she added: "I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal."

Trooping the Colour traditionally sees the royals out in force as more than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together in a great display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare to mark the Sovereign's official birthday.

The parade features a huge number of horses - ridden by both military personnel and members of the royal family.

Other members of the Royal Family are starting to arrive at Buckingham Palace ahead of Trooping the Colour. In another regal maroon car were Lady Louise Windsor, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh.
