A Pristine 1995 Bentley That Starred in ‘The Crown’ Is up for Grabs

You may not be able to buy one of the royal family’s actual cars, but you can snap up one used by their fictional counterparts.

A 1995 Bentley Brooklands that appeared in Netflix’s The Crown will be auctioned off by Classic Car Auctions in the U.K. this summer. The four-door saloon, which will go under the gavel at the auction house’s Tatton Park sale in Cheshire on June 1, starred in the fifth and sixth seasons of the critically acclaimed TV series. Prince Charles (Dominic West) and Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) can be both spotted in the four-wheeler.

Written and created by Peter Morgan, The Crown has been lauded for its realistic portrayal of the Windsors and royal life at large. Charles and Diana did indeed drive Bentleys in the ‘90s. The pair took a Bentley State Limousine to visit Prague in May 1991, for instance. In addition, Charles still has two Bentleys in his $8 million collection. Neither have ties to a hit TV show, though.

The Brooklands was launched by Bentley in 1992 to replace the Mulsanne and Bentley Eight. The model featured a sleek, angular body, a classic, waterfall grille, dual headlights, and a descending boot lid. Under the hood lay a 6.75-liter Rolls-Royce V-8. The Brooklands was produced for just six years until it was replaced by the Arnage in 1998. The British marque later introduced the Brooklands Coupé in 2007, which was a finalist in Robb Report’s Car of the Year in 2009.

This particular example is finished Peacock Blue and has been meticulously maintained, according to the auction house. The lambswool over rugs are in practically new condition, for example. The current owner acquired the ‘90s ride around three years ago from a renowned specialist in London. It does have 69,100 miles on the dial, but it has been well looked after by the owner and Rolls-Royce specialists. The car will also be sold with the number plate (G8 AOX) that appeared on the screen.

Arguably the best part is the fact that the Brooklands is expected to hammer down for between $15,300 and $19,000 (£12,000 and £15,000). That is quite the steal given the amount other items from The Crown have sold for. A sale of more than 450 props and costumes pulled in around $2.15 million (£1.7 million) at Bonhams in February, with Lady Di’s Jaguar achieving more than $89,000 (£70,000) alone. Consider $19,000 a bargain, then.
